With the schedule beginning on June 18 we will be returning to using four (4) Chalices for distributing Communion for most Masses.
There are several Masses at 5pm for which we don’t have sufficient Ministers of Communion to cover. Keep you eye on the Altar.
If there are four Chalices (not counting Fr. Rick’s) we will need a total of six (6) Ministers of Communion.
If there are only two Chalices we’ll only need four Ministers of Communion.
If there should be a Mass at which there is no Deacon then we would need one additional Minister of Communion.
When YOU receive at the Altar – if you’ll be receiving a Chalice from another Minister of Communion please take both the Chalice and Purificator. Waiting to hand the Chalice back delays distributing the Ciboria.
The first pair who finishes distributing at their stations should go to the Choir. When there is no one left to receive at your station, check the other stations. If one has a long line remaining you can go and assist at that location.
Once there, if you are distributing Communion from the Cup, please consume any of the Precious Blood remaining.
If there’s too much for you to consume by yourself please ask another Minister of Communion to assist.
If you’re under 21 years old and there’s more than a small sip please pass the Cup to another Minister of Communion to consume.
Altar Servers
We’ll continue with the current practices until we add a few more Altar Servers. As a reminder here are the times to watch out for:
A Server brings the small Missal to Father when he says, “Let us pray” near the beginning and end of Mass.
When the Priest and Deacon return to the Altar after receiving the Gifts – if there are several Ciboria (bowls) with lids one Server needs to come and get them from the Altar.
At least one Server needs to come to the Altar to assist with the Washing of Hands. If two or more Servers are present then two should come up. Don’t wait to be signaled – come up as soon as the lids are retrieved.
Ring the Bell once at the Epiclisis – Priest holding hands over the Gifts. Ring the Bell three times at the Elevation of the Host and three times at the Elevation of the Chalice. Make the “rings” distinct – a short pause between each.
Server Three takes the Ciboria lids off the Altar and puts them on the shelf and then gets the bowl and towel and brings them to the Altar platform.
Make sure you ring the Bells loudly enough to be heard.
